The USO of Indiana partnered with Freedom Mortgage for the 1st annual Rucksacks to Backpacks back-to-school celebration. The event, held on the Navy Reserve’s drill deck in Lawrence, saw more than 140 children from nearly 50 military families stock up on the required supplies as they get ready to head back to school. This event drew support from multiple organizations in the area as FCCI Insurance, CBS4, the Indiana Fever and the Indiana National Guard Child and Youth Services also participated.
Volunteers from the USO of Indiana and these partner organizations manned the supply tables; the children were treated to a magic show from Craig Stone and some face-painting. In the afternoon, Candice Dupree and Briann January from the WNBA’s Indiana Fever along with Freddy Fever and Boomer dropped by to meet the children.
“This celebration was a great event to demonstrate the support from our community and the love that Indiana has for their military families,” said Charles Ridings, USO Indiana’s Executive Director. Keeping our service members connected to family, home and country, and making sure they have what they need to kick off the school year in style.
